Look! A T-Shirt!!

I have no idea what made me look this up today, but I think it had something to do with being on campus all by myself. Again!

Big surprise... but I couldn't get packed up in time to go home, so now I'm left on campus all alone and I guess my FOMO has been fueled... but check it out!

There's also a video =]

Oh, and just in case you couldn't see the definition (from Urban Dictionary) it says:

FOMO "Fear of Missing Out"
[1]The fear that if you miss a party or event, you will miss out on something great.
Even though he was exhausted, John's fomo got the best of him and he went to the party.

[2]Used when you've either been invited somewhere and can't attend for one reason or another. Or, when you haven't been invited somewhere and everyone else is going.
Jane: "Have you been invited to the hottest party of the year next week that everyone is going to?"
John: "What invite? No, I'm not. Is everyone going to be there? I've got serious FOMO"

Who's a Happy Camper?

I am! I am! Technically, I am camped out in commons doing work...and I am happy :)

Reasons for being happy:
  • Rain
  • Family coming soon
  • Just turned in a beautiful term paper for my least favorite class --> No more intercultural communication!
  • Law Project = easy
  • A precious staff that keep reunionizing!
  • Coffee
  • A house
I know I'm a little late on the Thanksgiving post, but I just thought I would share with you all that I'm glad we love each other :)

Take a hint from a Storm Trooper

I randomly found this while looking for interesting websites in class, which was actually our assignment, believe it or not, and Meghan suggested that I share it.
Besides, it's too good not to..

Here's a little teaser, but you definitely should check out the rest of the pics, not only are they funny, but they are really well done! So, take a day off and maybe model it after these guys...

This coming Saturday

As most of you know, my dear little 16-year-old sister, Rachel, is coming to visit this upcoming weekend and I'd like for you to get to meet her! To initiate this, I wanted to see if anyone was up for getting Berry Cool with us on Saturday night. I don't know what time, but I wanted to get an idea of who is free and interested. Please let me know!

Redeeming Qualities

I found this in my intercultural communication text book --> I laughed.

Apparently the animals are legit...who knew?

P.S In case you wanted to read the chart, the horizontal line is concern for others' self-interest left is low, right is high. The vertical axis is concern for self interest, bottom is low, top is high
P.P.S. The shark description sounds awful...haha!

Hope

Hey peeps,

I would like to share something with you...

My grandfather, Richard Kemp, has been slowly slipping away from this world over the past few months. We have known that time is short and our Father is bringing him closer to the Kingdom with each passing day. This past Tuesday, however, my grandfather took significant steps toward eternity. Though he has not left this world yet, the time is coming soon.

Because of this, I am headed up to Seattle tomorrow morning to visit him one last time. I will be staying with various relatives this next week and spending some very heartfelt time with them. It will also be the last time I see my grandfather in his earthly body.

I am truly thankful for this opportunity. I know the Lord is going to do tremendous work in my heart...mainly because this is my first encounter with death. I am blessed to say that I have not yet lost a friend or loved one to death. This next season of life (for me and my entire family) will be one of significant changes. There's something about death the draws us closer to Hope.

If you will, please pray that God would work in my heart and show me the true meaning of hope, family, love, and the promise of salvation.

Each one of you are and will continue to be dear to my heart.

So who all wants to go camping over Torrey??

Dialogue.

Communication...

A lesson in non-verbal communication:
Everyone in this picture is communicating something...

Tyler's interpretation: The Other Five Love Languages
Amanda's interpretation: How we all feel about to pine cones
Anthony: Wonder
Tyler: Violence
Amanda: "really??"

I really just wanted to update the blog...

(Katie I really do love your pine cone!!)

if anyone was still wondering about the cabin...

from gvlcabinescape.com - notice the "not available for singles under 25"...thought that was funny. so if you're 20 and you're married, it would be ok? we could pretend like we're 5 couples. or maybe since we've been there before they'd trust us =) i guess we could play that card as opposed to the lying idea...

anyway...thought i'd just throw that info out there...

speaking of dreams

i literally dreamed about the meal we had last night.  it was so good! from the margaritas, to the crock-pot goodness, to the fruit pizza, i woke up thinking about it.

how embarassing...what can i say...after the new experience of cooking for myself every day, amazing meals like that definitely don't occur very often.

mmmmmmmm.

Bad Dream

So I had a hilarious/terrifying dream which explains why I am up before 8am for no reason. I dreamed I totally forgot about the progressive dinner tonight and I randomly invited my aunt and uncle over.

I was trying to do two things at once because I didn't want to miss anything. For some reason we were meeting on this big huge boat on this huge wooden dock and I really needed to go to the store because I hadn't bought anything for it yet. And you were all PISSED that I was unprepared but we went shopping in a place that looked like Catalina but because it was all cutesy it didn't have real food. I was all panicky and you guys pretty much hated me. All of the sudden we were back on the big wooden and some dignitary from Biola was giving a speech to kick off our event and there were lots of people there. I was freaking out because I couldn't find my aunt and uncle and I was trying to convince you, quite unsuccessfully) all to go to the store.

Pretty much the dream ended with everyone mad at me... so...

I promise I won't invite any random family members over tonight.
I promise that I will go shopping before.
I promise that there will be no boats and no docks as far as it is in my power to do so.
and I promise not to hold dream actions against real people... especially you, Amanda Wheeler, Tyler White, and Katie Stes ;-)

haha... excited to see you all tonight!!

Meghan...

where did your post go? You're in charge now because I don't have time to organize because of a presentation I have on Thursday. Cheers!

Thursday, September 3, 2009

So it's looking like....

We are doing the progressive dinner on FRIDAY the 18th since KP isn't available on the 19th...

Sound good?

Who wants to do what dish?
Tyler obviously already has dibbs on bread...

Also, me, meg, and er were thinking that Erin & Amanda's house could be the last stop and we could watch a movie. Plus, there are A LOT of places to be stopping and getting food, so maybe we could revise and/or cut out a room (like mine and Meg's since most everyone has been here and it's not super big or exciting... except our sweet Ikea coffee table)

See you all soon!

A treat for you all...

So Meghan, Erin, and I watched Madagascar II the other night (we all three highly recommend the movie) and we wanted to share a few memorable movie moments with you!
Enjoy :)

Does the graham in a s'more cancel out the effects of the chocolate??

So despite the fact that K Stes so adamantly (and loudly) proclaimed that her and her husband would not be practicing abstinence to keep from getting pregnant, I wonder if this method wouldn't help out with that a little (and don't get freaked out before you at least read what I'm posting). My Huality prof (or Human Sexuality class for those of you that missed the abbreviation) encouraged us to look this up...

thanks guys!

Thanks for coming over tonight, everyone - it was great. Love you guys!

Let's do it again soon. Next on the list, progressive dinner, right? In an ideal world - we could come up with a couple hundred dollars and go back to Big Bear. Wouldn't that be amazing?

You're Invited...

You are cordially invited to

Summer Prayer Request Update

Remember how one of my summer prayer requests was for raising support for Africa?

Well, I can't remember if I told anyone yet but, I was 100% supported. I actually had money left over in my account! Yay! God is good and I wanted to share his goodness with you all :)

Miss you all, and so excited to see you soon!

Anthony Kemp: AS Senator?

Hey guys,

So, I have a pretty funny story for you.

Last night at about 11 EST, I randomly found a post about a an opening in AS for The Block Senator (where I am living this year with Matt Barrios). I was pretty intrigued by this and began to question...... Is this something God wants me to do this year?

Long story short:

1. Prayed, prayed, prayed.
2. Sought input from my parents and Jess. Prayed.
4. Called the VP, Justin de Vesta. Prayed.
3. Filled out an application between the hours of 12am and 1:30 am. Prayed.
4. Had a phone interview with Justin and Mark Heath around 2am.
5. Prayed all day long and thought more about it.
6. Got offered the position, whereupon I told Justin that I wanted more time to consider and make sure this was God's intent.
7. PRAYED PRAYED PRAYED.
8. Accepted the position.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen.... I am now a Senator in AS. Weird. But apparently that's where God wants me and I feel totally at peace about it.

And let me tell you something else, all of this miscommunication/distance between AS and ResLife is going to stop. It's time to bridge the gap, so to speak. We are ONE body. I believe this vision is part of the reason God has brought me into this position. Doesn't that sound neat?

Anyway, wanted you all to be among the first to know. Why? Because I love you (especially Steph).

Your truly,
Anthony

Google Reader is my friend

So, this summer I've been following quite a few blogs so I've been doing so via Google Reader, but unfortunately I've been following so many that it seems like my thoughts have already been blogged about by someone else out there, so my motivation to post has been zero! (which is a bummer because I even made my own blog this summer, half-wrote a couple posts that were never published, and gave up)

Summer is over in one week, and I'm disappointed in how little I've done! I had these grand delusions of taking a couple of weekend trips, reading through a few books, working on resumes, writing in my journal, learning guitar, but I've failed to follow through.

On the upside, I'm all moved back into Horton, furniture arranged to my delight, and I'm gearing up to start my last semester at Biola! It's been nice to have people constantly milling about campus nowadays, consisting mainly of ResLife, SOS, and Athletics. Oh, and of course the Bible Bridgers, but they're just so busy building bridges with the Bible :)

Although last week was hard to see all the new RAs come back and start training (I secretly wore the yellow staff underneath my regular clothes all week. Okay, that's a lie), it's been really nice to have Jeremy and Dillon (who rock, in case you were wondering or unsure for some reason) on the floor getting stuff ready and I'm looking forward to just being a resident taking 12 units and working 20 hours a week. Oh, and job searching. Phooey.

Erin (the brunette one) - I had a ridiculously vivid dream about your "semi-creepy?" post from the view point of the woman who had found our blog, and it was definitely creepy. Thanks for that...

Amanda - Be thankful that you have a full school year left for your spouse-search. I have a mere four months! I've been researching the Paschall method to finding a wife and I think I'm over my qualms of pursuing a freshman at this point, so wish me luck! ;)

I hope everyone's travels back to Biola go well and I can't wait to see you all. CJ, enjoy gorgeous Northern California and I'd better see you soon. I'm off to be productive! (Or nap. Either way.)

Ebay-aholics anonymous

Hello. My name is Amanda and I am an ebay-aholic...

Ebay is a tricky little thing. You think you have recovered and then BOOM it hits you with a deal like Sevens for all Mankind jeans for $35 or three pairs of sweet aviators for under $10...what am I supposed to do? Pass on that? Rather I am removing the temptation upon which someone else may stumble...right?

Do I need an 8th pair of jeans?...probably not.

Do I need three pairs of sunglasses?...while the different rim colors may come in handy for matching outfits...I think the overall concept of three sunglasses is frivolous.

Do these logical arguments stop me? Of course not :)

Guess whose looking goooood coming back to school :)
(It's my last ditch effort to find a husband, since I struck out in Africa...haha)

To quote Aryn: "I want that"

P.S. I MISS YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
Party at my house? Yes I think so!
(we have a play fort and a fire pit...s'mores? Yes, please)

Interview

Check out the Link I found this fascinating and thin everyone should watch this.

My Summer Addictions

Ok... in hopes of maybe getting you hooked and not feeling so lame... here is how I passed some time this summer:

1) Stuff Christians Like
http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/
I love this website. I think Jon, the author, is so funny. I can't remember if I confessed my love for this site on the RA folder (I know I did on my floor folder...) But he "makes fun" of Christian "culture" but not in a mean way.

2) My Life is Average

Mylifeisaverage.com
I know... I know... kinda jr. high but it makes me laugh.

3) Post Secret

http://postsecret.blogspot.com/
I think the whole concept of this site is fascinating. I think it is interesting what freedom people find in confessing their secrets to strangers and knowing that they aren't the only one. I think it really speaks to the Biblical idea of "light" and "darkness" (I spent WAYYYY too much time in the Gospel of John last semester ;) If you've never checked it out be warned that the content isn't necessarily biblical... sometimes its a little pg-13... maybe even pg-13+?

4) Gilmore Girls and... now The Office.
Gilmore Girls... I have watched all 7 seasons this summer... well almost all seven, I have the final two episodes to go!

And my new replacement addiction might be The Office. And by 'might,' I mean 'I'm definitely hooked.'

MY LOVE SONG TO AMANDA...

Since I forgot my fellow staff member in my last post, here's a love poem for.... Miss Amanda Wheeler.

Hello, my dear!

Do not fear,
My love's not queer.
It's in high gear!
So wipe that tear
And hear my cheer.

Wheeler is the best!
I shall not jest
Nor you protest.
I am so blessed
To know her... dressed.

Amanda is fine,
That friend of mine
Who does not whine
Or smell like swine.
She's simply divine!

I'll finish this rhyme
To save you time.
It's been sublime!
My love's a crime
So I'll just mime........

The Prosthetic Arm

Okay.

So let me just tell you, I've been having flashbacks all weekend to the great times we had during off-campus training. From communion to cactus injuries to detachable limbs to oatmeal to 8-hour challenge days, we have so many great memories. It's also made me so thankful that I have had the chance to know all of you. I love you, Steph... oh, and also K Stes, Ty Guy, Meggers, SHADE, Nate/CJ, Miss Watts, Blonde Aryn, and KP.

Now for an update:

INTERNSHIP: I finished my eight-week internship with a bang. Here's basically what I did: reading, writing, script bashing, research, watched preschool shows, and enjoyed a full-weeks worth of disney programming...... all for a single sheet of paper - that is, my recommendation letter. I met some great people, made some useful connections, and spent a lot of hours in traffic. All in all, it was an absolute blessing (despite how difficult it was being away from my family). And I got a free lunch.... once. Really. That was all I got.

NOW: Now I am currently at home, resting for a few weeks before I return to Biola. I don't know about you guys, but I am super-pumped to be back in action at school. This year will bring many changes for us all and with change, comes growth through challenges.

THE FUTURE!!! I'm thinking we should plan a get-back-together when we return. Anyone interested in helping me plan something? If so, call me, text me, facebook me, blog me, or fly to Florida and find me.

That is all. Life-update complete (content now, Erin?).

Kisses, Anthony

semi-creepy?

so the other day i was sitting on the pool deck with one of my co-workers during a break between swim classes, and she said "hey erin, do you have a blog?" i said "no, why?"  "well, i was in northern CA visiting my boyfriend last weekend and his mom was online and was like 'hey do you know an erin watts?' apparently she was online and saw your blog or something where you wrote about sellwood pool and asked me, 'isn't that where you work?'" well...at this i was kind of freaked out. i told my friend, i definitely don't have a blog, that's so creepy! after a few minutes i realized...oh..duh, i do have a blog, kind of..and i did write about sellwood pool! anyway my co-worker said "oh, weird, i guess she just found it through a string of other people's blogs"

ok, does anyone think that's semi-creepy? not that i care that my friend's boyfriend's mom found our blog...but i guess i just forget we're just online...floating around in the world wide web...for anyone to see us. am i a tad paranoid? maybe. hmm.

in other news...i cut my hair off.
and its someone else's turn to give a summer update (especially *ahem* aryn and chris and katie powell if you're out there) because i just posted.

Duh-nuh....duh-nuh...duhnuhduhnuhduhnuh...!!!!

Realizing my computer is getting slower and VERY LOW on space, I decided to organize some things and get rid of files I don't need (my Input is hating me right now!). Anyway, in the process, I found the Conflict Management Styles worksheet and thought I would refresh your memories.... :-)

THE SHARK (forcing): Sharks try to overpower opponents by forcing them to accept their solution to the conflict. Their goals are highly important to them, and relationships are of minor importance. They seek to achieve their goals at all costs. They are not concerned with the needs other others. They do not care if others like or accept them. Sharks assume that conflicts are settled by one person winning and one person losing. They want to be the winner. Winning gives sharks a sense of pride and achievement. Losing gives them a sense of weakness, inadequacy and failure. They try to win by attacking, overpowering, overwhelming, and intimidating others.

In reading that, I realized it's a bit harsh...and would really like to point out that most of the characteristics that from this description that our Shark exhibits stems from her Competition theme. And luckily for us, she actually does care about relationships. Okay, that's all for now. I'll probably post more stuff when I find it...cause I'm bound to find something else interesting! :-)

Post deleter

Tyler White* is a post deleter.

I was going to comment on the Harry Potter post but it is now gone.

What I was going to say:

How was it? Please tell me you dressed up.

*I'm assuming that Tyler deleted his own post... apologies if it wasn't you! :)

Moving on...

to South Africa.

I am officially on part II of my trip and freezing my butt of at night...stinking winter

ready for an erin-watts-summer-update?

basically, my summer IS sellwood pool. i spend, on average, 8 hours at the pool everyday. i am 10 shades darker than i was when you all last saw me, due to a beautiful full week of 90 degree weather, and i am perpetually wet. from 8:30am-10:30am i teach "junior swim instructor," a program for 11 to 14 year olds where they learn about our swim lesson program and actually get in the water to help instructors teach swimming lessons. i took it when i was 12, now i'm teaching it. cute, right? from 11:00-1:00 i am in the water teaching 1/2 hour swim lessons of various ages and levels. my favorites are the parent/child classes where i get to play with 6 mo. to 18 mo. olds in the water. fun. from 1:00-4:30 i work at the front desk during our open swim time. computers...cash registers...answering phones...you get the idea. at 4:30, i go home and collapse. and rest. often this includes movies with my family, baking something, working on my online class (art appreciation...eh...i know), and doing...or avoiding...those random little things that need to get done. this is monday-friday! some weeks vary. every other week we have inservices at 7am on tuesdays. looong days.

overall, its a great job. having been there for going on 6 summers, i know the program backwards and forwards, i am paid well, and i know a lot of employees and families who come to the pool. its those weeks of not-so-great-weather...65 and overcast...when the water is just a little too cold...that are harder. thankfully, those days have been the minority! it can be tiring being around a large staff of people who, for the most part, don't know the Lord. all day everyday. i'm still trying to figure out what representing Him at my job looks like. when do i say something? when do i stay silent? if you think of it, you could pray that I would be sensitive to the heart of God in this area. it seems appropriate to put a picture of the pool here...but i don't even have one! here's one i found online. our building is sweet looking, huh? love portland for its buildings...and for many other reasons, as you all know. =)

other than work, there's not much happening in my summer other than a wedding to go to, and the HARRY POTTER movie coming out THIS WEEK! BUT a few pretty awesome events took place in my life over the last month. #1 - dear friends ally and lauren from ARISE drove all the way up from SoCal just to visit me, having never been to the northwest. i had a blast showing off portland - i am completely braggy about the magnificence of my city. probably to the point where its annoying. then the three of us drove up to duvall, WA, where my roommate Michelle lives, and none other than AMANDA WHEELER came over and hung out with us! i got to see Amanda a 2nd time when the #2 awesome event happened - MEGHAN WYCOFF came to visit! she flew into seattle, spent time with Amanda, and then Amanda and I met at an Applebee's at the halfway point between Sammamish and Portland to pass Meghan off. =) We had a delightful time, and then I got to show off Portland AGAIN!

A few snapshots.

Friend visit #1 - Ally and Lauren
(artistic, right? the feet are my sister Emily's who took the pic...haha.)

Friend visit #2 - Meghan and Amanda! So excited to be reunited.
We could be a commercial for Applebee's.

This is my response to Ally telling me to make a "too cool" face.
Had to share due to the shirt.

Portland is amazing pic #1

Portland is amazing pic #2 (I could go on forever with these but i will stop here ;D)

Sound Off!!... Y-M!!... Once Again!!... C-A!!...

Well peeps...

In just 6 short hours, I will be off to Rancho Cucamonga for YMCA camp!!
I'm more excited about it than I thought I would be and relationships with a few of the staff members are already starting off better than I thought they would be!

However, I'll still need all the prayers you can give me, it's going to be a tough week, especially starting off with the fact that I may only get about 2 hours of sleep tonight.. I have to leave La Mirada at 6am and I haven't even packed yet! Yikes!

I'll be writing again in about 1 week!

Marshmallows!!!

Many of you may not know that I am a huge fan of marshmallows, but as I just stated, I am. Because of this, awhile back my family bought me a huge back of GIANT marshmallows...and when I say GIANT I mean each marshmallow weighs 1 oz in and of itself. I thought they were hilarious and yet for some reason, I cannot bring myself to eat them (I get a sugar rush every time I simply glance at the bag). So I finally decided, thanks to my sister's ingenious idea, to make Rice Krispie Treats with them. The reason I'm telling you all this? Because as soon as I put the GIANT marshmallows in the microwave, and watched them grow and grow in size, I immediately thought of CJ and the marshmallow cream.... :-). SO I thought I'd share my experience with you.(huge bag of GIANT marshmallows)
(Marshmallow cream reenactment...almost hit the top!)(This was the hard part...stirring of course, not stuffing it in my mouth)
The finished product! Unfortunately, I can't actually share this part with you...though I'd love to! Don't think they'd fare well in the mail though. Hope you enjoyed :-).

Monday, July 6, 2009

Oh yea, I forgot to tell you!

So I have been meaning to tell you guys this for about a week now, but I've been either too busy or too lazy to go take a picture...

I had a HUGE prayer answered last week when I went home to visit with my parents for the weekend. They surprised me with a.............

NEW CAR!!

I'm seriously still in shock over the whole thing, it's totally unlike my parents and it came at just the right time because my poor little Saturn hardly made it to their house. They originally were going to wait and give it to me when I graduated but they were really excited about my plans to continue on with Graduate school (yet another thing that was totally unlike my parents) that they wanted to give it to me now! Again, totally in shock, but excited beyond words..

oh, and please feel free to mock the fact that it has a car bra =]

July 4th- Red, White & Blues....

Hey everyone,

So my July 4th has been lame (however, the evening isn't done yet)
Tyler has to wake up early and therefore is playing with legos instead of watching fireworks on the roof of my house with me (and if he would have been here, I definitely would NOT have gotten stuck on the roof... I see now that my parents had a legit reason for not letting me go up there as a kid).

So anyways, after I figured out how to get down from the roof I randomly read through the Staff Quote book and had a good laughing-with-myself session but I had some questions....

and since I'm feeling pitiful and narcissistic I chose my own quotes- does anyone remember the context of these??? I can't seem to remember!

1: “My only hesitation is if I didn’t know anyone I didn’t want to spend a weekend sleeping with them.” – K Stes

2: “What were you guys talking about when I was the Holy Spirit?” – K Stes

hope you are all having a good time!
=]

Look what I found...

oops.

I left out a semi-news-worthy part of my day. There is a fire in Temecula and our church was evacuated. My dad was working at the church at the time. Last I heard, the fire hasn't burned any structures or houses (it is in the hills behind the building where luckily, not very much is). This is a pic my Dad took with his phone from the church roof (yes, that's his thumb, he's a little new at this whole camera phone thing ;-)

and here are a couple pics from online:

Just pray for the fire to be put out soon and not destroy any homes/buildings, for safety for the the firefighters/police, also there was a huge outreach event planned at the church tonight that had to be canceled that a lot of people put a lot of time into and my dad is doing a wedding at the church this weekend so just that this wouldn't cause problems for the bride and groom :)

Summer

Well, at this moment in time, I can't necessarily follow a business venture half way around the world, mosquito nets, and passports... but I can tell you what I did today. It will make the rest of you all feel better about your summers ;)

Today I...

My aunt and uncle own a preschool in Garden Grove and we went and visited. Isn't it cute? They were bar-b-queing for the Fourth of July today so that was fun and the kids were super cute.
This is the outside:

Part of the inside:

After taking a nap... I went lap swimming. First time since being home. oops. The pool is... um... interesting. I'm used to the Temecula CRC and Splash! which are pretty nice. Lets just say that the water was a little cloudy and when the lifeguard was out on a deck, someone was sitting next to him playing the guitar.

And one of my favorite parts about being home... being able to make my own food or have home cooked non cafe meals! (I, though, have nothing against the cafe:)

Tonight I had cereal (half regular cheerios/half honey nut) and strawberries...

With a fork of course...

Anyone else do anything exciting... or not exciting and still want to share?? :)

Stamps

I have now filled up two whole pages of my passport! Wohoo! The visa for Kenya is a full page...

Also, I woke up at 5am to the Muslim call to prayer...that was fun

Anyway, I'm doing well - just trying to adjust to the time change. Out of the 27 hours of flight time, I only slept for 4 hours...so I'm beat. But I did watch several movies...I shed a tear for Marley & Me, enjoyed 17 Again (Meg, it would have been an infinitely better choice than Ghosts...), finally saw Slumdog, started Madagascar 2 to get in the Africa mindset...haha

Tomorrow we are going on a city tour, so I'm pretty excited for that. Kenyans are pretty nice and so proud of their country. We met with a pastor yesterday and he and his wife showed us around and gave us some good pointers on how to avoid getting taken advantage of, which is great!

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well!

Prayer Time!

Hey guys! I've been enjoying the summer posts...from those of you brave enough to contribute :-). Also, has anyone watched Wipeout?? It's FREAKIN hilarious. Wow, I should feel bad laughing at people getting hurt, but they know it's coming! You should check it out sometime if you can :-).

I actually have a prayer request, so I figured I would just post it here because I figured it would have a pretty high likelihood of being seen. First off, Amanda's flying to Africa!!! Exciting but scary...I'll be praying for her as she flies tomorrow, as I'm sure all of you will be, too. Also, I have a very busy week ahead, which our family needs lots of prayer for. And sorry this is so long, I just don't know how else to condense it!

So this last week, my grandmother (Xantha...I know, it's pronounced Zantha...it's a flower) went to the hospital with abdominal pain which turned out to be acute pancreatitis which was caused by escaped stones from her gall bladder. They took out her gall bladder on Friday and were hoping to release her today but an X-ray showed that her lungs are starting to fill up with fluid so they're keeping her longer. She hasn't been doing her breathing exercises or walking as much as she should and needs to really get on top of these two things in order to improve and go home. So, if you could pray that she would find the strength and motivation to do both, and that she would heal quickly, that would be awesome.

The other thing is that my grandpa, her husband (yes, the same one who came to graduation and was yelling at people :-)), hasn't been handling it all very well because he is understandably exhausted from his treatments/his cancers. He doesn't have a lot of energy and cannot walk very far and these long days in the hospital have not been helping. He's also not the most tender of people (he loves my grandma, he just isn't very gentle) and it's been hard for him to see her in the hospital, so it's been making it more difficult on my grandma. To make matters more complicated, he has to go Tuesday for another round of chemo and my grandma is usually the one who takes care of him. So now they're both gonna be pretty under the weather, and we're gonna be trying our best to take care of them.

To top it all off, our 2nd cousin Randee and her 19 month old are flying in Wednesday morning for a two week visit (which we're stoked about)...but it makes the whole grandma/grandpa/Randee-visit a little more complex, especially if Grandma's not home from the hospital soon. I know Randee will understand, but it's just a little stressful for everyone, especially just trying to handle all the illnesses, etc.

So anyway, please pray for both of my grandparents and their respective health issues (which is so weird to say cause my grandparents have always been so strong and awesome!) and for our family to have strength and be able to support them in the way they need it. Also, my uncle who lives with them...pray that he'll be able to anticipate needs and be able to meet them. Pray for Randee who greatly needs this vacation and for our conversations with her--that God would be in them and that we would represent Him well to her (as she's in a place where she doesn't really see her need for a personal relationship with Him). Pray especially for me in the next week as I tend to get to the end of my rope rather quickly--especially that I would have peace and patience and not try to control things, since I have had much difficulty with those in the past! I am so thankful for all of you and miss you terribly! I can't WAIT till the Fall when we can all come together...CJ, you'll just have to come on down for the first week of school :-). Love you guys!

My Rip-Rappin has been a Slick-Slackin...

I've been feeling that some of my talents have not been properly used since the end of school, especially my sweet rhymin' skills.
So my solution for this has been to try each day while I am at work to come up with really random short raps. This task has not gone so very well- until today.

I hit GOLD!

And since you people are the ones that have had the pleasure to experience my unique propensity for lyricism, I decided you should be the first that I share this with.
Some background information first:
If you remember, at Splash we have a code, AFR, which stands for Accidental Fecal Release, a funny joke just within itself. However, we have been experiencing a high level of these AFR's lately and so when they happen, all of the lifeguards on the Lazy River or the Aqua Play (kiddie area) get to take a 20 minute breather and just sit and chill. Unfortunately, I now hope for an AFR so I can sit and just chat with someone because it gets really lonely when you are just left to your own thoughts! I was inspired today when I realized I was chanting, as I walked, "take a poo in the river, please" because I just wanted to sit! And this is what came out of it....

Take a poo in the river or the aqua play
Take a poo in the river or the aqua play
It's ok, you don't even have to say,
Just take a poo in the river or the aqua play.

We'll call it an "Accident" and scoop it right out
Then close for 20 minutes while the feces filters out
As children complain and parents restrain
A Routine maintenence is how we'll explain.

it's definitely a work in progress, but I've got all summer... and hopefully a few more AFR's!

My new favorite quote...

"I still remember trying to sleep under the stars but unable to because of the ridiculous marine-related conversations you girls were having, accompanied by an abundance of giggling."

Meet Katie (& an update on my life)

Meet Katie:

& An Update On My LIfe:

Okay, so I realized today that I miss you all too much. It's driving me nuts. I've been back in La Mirada for about two weeks and it stinks to know that you all aren't around. End of Story.

Secondly, I started my Internship on the 9th and its been great fun. Here's what happened my first day:

My supervisor, Shea: "Hey, Anthony. Here's three books, a treatment, and a script. Just read each one and write coverage for each of them. Don't worry about finishing this week. It's not urgent."
Anthony: "Okay. Great. Thanks"

Fast forward to the end of that day when I walked into her office.....

Anthony: "Hey Shea. I'm done."
Shea: "What? Oh. Okay."
(at this point, she looked a little uncomfortable)
Shea: "Well, I guess I'll have to find more work for you to do."
(My conclusion: She didn't have more work for me to do)

So aside from coverage (which is just writing a one page summary of what I read), I've sorted and alphabetized hundreds of DVDs, searched the internet for fan sites, emailed a bunch of people, and done research on all the top children's tv networks. Oh, and watched every available episode of "Kings." Great show.

Other than that, life is great. I miss my family. I miss you guys. And I would love for summer to ACTUALLY feel like summer, but I have my break in August to look forward to. Jess is coming down this week so that will be fun. I hear Amanda is coming too! So.... for whoever is reading this and will be in the La Mirada area this weekend, we should totally hang out. Pazookies?

Finito!
-Anthony

Real Great News!!

GUYS!!!

This is an awesome answer to prayer and I wanted to share it with you!!

So I was talking to some of you (or maybe all-I can't really remember...) about how I was a little worried about getting to know my co-workers at Splash due to the fact that most of my impressions of them had been that they were mostly partyers and drinkers and such.. basically, I was overwhelmed with the thought that I was going to have to be one of the only lights in that place!

BUT...
About a week and a half ago, I went in to Splash to turn in my time card and I was leaning against a wall when someone saw my tattoo on my wrist and asked about it.. I explained it and they asked if I was Jewish (haha) but I said no, I'm Christian. Then, a girl, Lexi, who was standing by me piped up and invited me to....

A FRIDAY NIGHT WORK BIBLE STUDY!!

that's right, my fellow employees started a Bible study!! I was able to go this past Friday and it was absolutely amazing, like genuine fellowship and a huge wealth of Biblical knowledge and wisdom! I am so extremely excited about this opportunity you guys, I can't even fully put it in words! Really, it's the answer to not just one but multiple prayer requests... I am real amped up to get more involved with it and it has really shifted my attitude and environment while at work!

So thank you so much for praying for me, I will continue to pray for you. =]

Finally Made the Jump

I'M FINALLY A BLOGGER! Wow it feels good. Yes, it has been a long time coming but it took some highly focused energy to get around to making a gmail account and then accepting the invitation. Wow..I feel tired already. Anyways, I am pumped and ready to go full-swing into this new realm of cyberspace. Lookout world here comes Aryn, "The Blogger Extraordiniare!!"
LOVE you all. Miss you more. Glad I can finally read what you all have been writing for the past month!

So I randomly read the quote book again and I think these are my top three favorite.... any other favorites??

LOVE love LOVE

I am in LOVE with this weather!

This is my new backyard... covered (ok kinda covered) in hail. In June. Amazing.

Has summer started for anyone else??

So I still kind of feel like summer hasn't really started yet and that the past 3 weeks have kind of been just a reeeeeeeal long weekend. However, several things could be attributing to this strange sense of seasonal dysfunction (and yes that word is spelled correctly even though it doesn't look like it is...)

1. There has only been 1 day in which the sun has appeared before 4 or 5pm... It has been cool and cloudy EVERY SINGLE DAY! What is this Washington? Oregon? bull hucky!

2. I typically associate summer with going home and since my "home" is not technically home, my mind is tricked into thinking it's not permanent for the next 2+ months.

3. I'm not overwhelmed by hours upon hours of working! I typically only get scheduled for about 10-12 hours/week but I've been snatching people's hours left and right! I convince them that they don't really want to work... so I went from 10 hours up to 27.5 for this week! Skilled, I know...

And that's basically where I'm at. Now I really don't want to let all this precious time go to wasted, I want to squeeze all the juice out of it! Any ideas of what I should do??

Also, a side note I'd like to share, I had the first conversation with my dad since Easter today! I know, pretty crazy.. But it went so well and he told me that he checks my blog (my personal one) about once a week and wishes I would post more on it! That was fun for me to hear..

ok, goodnight!
